The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford is seeking a senior editorial leader to take on the role of Director of Journalist Programmes. This is a rare opportunity to shape the strategic direction and global impact of one of the world’s leading journalism fellowships and professional development programmes.
As a key member of the Institute’s senior management team, the Director will lead the design, delivery, and long-term sustainability of the Institute’s journalist-centred initiatives. This includes the internationally acclaimed Reuters Journalist Fellowship Programme, the Oxford Climate Journalism Network, short courses, and various global projects aimed at advancing journalism practice and newsroom leadership.

Role Overview
The Director of Journalist Programmes will report to the Institute Director and will be responsible for the overall leadership, visibility, and financial sustainability of the Institute’s journalist-facing work. This role demands an individual with a proven track record in editorial leadership and an internationally recognised profile in the journalism field.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the strategic development and delivery of all journalist programmes
- Ensuring the programmes remain impactful, relevant, and globally inclusive
- Collaborating closely with fellows, faculty, and external partners
- Overseeing programme staff and budgets
- Supporting development efforts and fundraising initiatives to secure the long-term future of the journalist programmes
This is a hands-on, full-time position based in Oxford. The successful candidate must be willing to reside in Oxford and be actively engaged in the day-to-day activities of the Institute.
